En af de største historier siden Den Kolde Krig, var selvfølgelig pandemien i 2020. Vi var bange, fordi vi kke vidste, hvad vi stod overfor, hvorledes vi ville reagere og om vores samfund kunne holde til den ukendte trussel. Selv vores myndigheder, havde svært ved at rede på situationen. Ingen er fejlfrie på en rejse ind i det ukendte.
Men hurtigt stod det klart, at der også blev løjet, at der var hænder bag hysteriet, hænder med en dagsorden. Store summer er kastet fra skatteyderne til medicinalindustrien, og politiske kræfter har benyttet lejligheden til at begrænse ytringsfriheden og tage kontrol over den offentlige debat, med den håbløse undskyldning at ville bekæmpe mis-, des-, og mal-information. Det sidste begreb, betyder at man spreder rigtige oplysninger, som er skadelige for almenvældet – som det herskende regime tolker det.

Billedet på det ansvarlige, var for medierne og Demokraterne og alle, der ville indskrænke andre menneskers frihed, var Anthony Fauci. Han blev forledes grillet endnu en gang i Kongressen af Repræsentant Rich McCormick. David Sacks gav et resume

And yet many Democrats repeatedly suggested that there was something sinister and dangerous about criticisms of Fauci for his role in shaping the US response to the pandemic as well as his role advocating for and funding the kinds of biomedical research that may have caused it. And Democrats repeatedly referred to the idea that US taxpayer dollars funded the research that resulted in the creation of SARS-CoV-2 a “conspiracy theory.”
Said @RepRaskin (D-CA), “The investigation of Dr Fauci shows he is an honorable public servant who has devoted his entire career to the public health and the public interest. And he is not a comic book supervillain. He did not fund research to create the Cove in 19 pandemic. He did not lie to Congress about gain of function research in Wuhan, and he did not organize a lab leak suppression campaign today.”
Said Rep. @KathyCastorFL (D-FL), “The evidence to date points to COVID 19 having originated from an animal market in China… this committee should be doing more to fight for those answers, but instead has wasted significant time and taxpayer money fueling conspiracy theories.”
Said @RepKweisiMfume (D-MD), “Conspiracy theory after another get debunked….”
But the lab leak theory is not a conspiracy theory. A few hours before Fauci testified, The New York Times, the most important newspaper for Democrats, published a complete and graphics-heavy case for the lab leak theory of Covid-19’s origin.
A “growing volume of evidence — gleaned from public records released under the Freedom of Information Act, digital sleuthing through online databases, scientific papers analyzing the virus and its spread, and leaks from within the U.S. government — suggests that the pandemic most likely occurred because a virus escaped from a research lab in Wuhan, China,” wrote @Ayjchan who coauthored the 2021 book, Viral, with @mattwridley, in the Times.
Det hele er et teater, som Viva Frei er en af mange, der påpeger. For Republikanerne er Fauci en skurk, for Demokraterne er han en ophøjet helt, indbegrebet af ‘Videnskaben’. Michigans guvernør Gretchen Whitmer havde endda en Fauci-pude. Meget er sket siden 1990, hvor “liberal activists stormed the NIH carrying an effigy of Fauci’s head on a stick, lighting smoke bombs, and brandishing “F**K YOU FAUCI” coffins.”, som Kanakoa The Great mindede om.
Man kan ikke fortænke Fauci og kumpaner i at dække over deres korruption og inkompetence. Men medierne hjalp dem og udskammede alle kritiske røster og tvivlende borgere, som konspirationsteoretikere og medskyldige i massedød. It started in Feb 2020 when @SenTomCotton suggested looking into the CCP lab studying bats near the initial cases in Wuhan.
The media were outraged. In a since-updated piece, @washingtonpost said the idea was a “conspiracy theory that has been repeatedly debunked by experts.”
It wasn’t just WaPo. Shortly thereafter, @nytimes trotted out a similar allegation, calling the lab leak hypothesis a “fringe theory” and a “tale” designed to inflame social media.
@CNN’s @ChrisCillizza said Cotton was “playing a dangerous game” with his suggestions.
@USATODAY, in a since-updated fact check, said that Cotton’s claims were “false” because “overwhelming scientific evidence” said so.
his was the dawn of what I like to call “experts say” reporting, where an outlet finds someone with credentials who agrees with them to make the point the outlet wants to make.

There were some even more dramatic examples I want to call out.
Maybe my all time favorite is from @NPR who, with the confidence that only that station posses, claimed that the lab leak theory had been “debunked” in April 2020.
It was really a banner time period for outlets using “fact checkers” as a political weapon with no connection to facts…
