“Hillary accidentally bumped in to me and very civilly said ‘pardon me’” sagde Trump i 2016 ved Alfred E. Smith charity dinner.
In his last days, Biden commuted the sentences of 2,500 federal defendants he claimed were convicted of “non-violent drug offenses, who are serving disproportionately long sentences.”
Biden is either lying or his senior advisers are lying to him.
Biden reduced the sentence of Lairon Graham, 67, a Buffalo man convicted in 2023 of organizing and heading a drug conspiracy to sell fentanyl, crack, cocaine and heroin.
When police raided his home, they found fentanyl, crack and cash. He also possessed a firearm in his residence.
In addition to heading up the drug gang, Graham was also convicted of “sex trafficking by force or coercion” from 2013 to 2021.
You see, this “non-violent drug dealer” threatened or beat at least four women in order to force them to engage in commercial sexual activity.
He beat one learning-disabled woman on a daily basis. He had 12 prior convictions.
Biden lowered his sentence from 22 years to 12½ years.
(…)I wonder whether President Biden knew what he was doing when he signed off on these commutations. I’m sure he didn’t read 2,500 memos from his staff.
I said, “Mr. President, thanks for the moment. You know this is very important. I’ve got some big national security things I need to talk to you about that I’ve heard, and I think you know. What do we do?”
But first, real quickly, “Mr. President, can I ask you a question? I cannot answer this to my constituents in Louisiana. Sir, why did you pause LNG exports to Europe? Like, I don’t understand. Liquefied natural gas is in great demand by our allies. Why would you do that? You understand — we just talked about Ukraine — you’re fueling Vladimir Putin’s war machine because they’ve got to get their gas from him.”
He looks at me, stunned, and says, “I didn’t, I didn’t do that.”
I said, “Mr. President, yes, you did. It was an executive order, like, three weeks ago.”
He says, “No, I didn’t do that.” He’s arguing with me.
I said, “Mr. President, respectfully, could I go out here and ask your secretary to print it out? We’ll read it together. You definitely did that.”
And he goes, “Oh, you’re talking about natural gas?”
“Yes, sir,” I said.
“No, no, I think you misunderstand,” he replied. “What I did is I signed this thing to, we’re going to conduct a study on the effects of LNG.”
I said, “No, you’re not, sir. You paused it. I know. I have the export terminals in my state. I talked to those people this morning. This is doing massive damage to our economy and national security.”
It occurred to me, Bari, he was not lying to me. He genuinely did not know what he had signed. I walked out of that meeting with fear and loathing because I thought, We’re in serious trouble. Who is running the country? I don’t know who put the paper in front of him, but he didn’t know.
I would expect that the same exact pardon that he gave his son.” Men værten måtte konstatere: “To be very clear, you’re not the president’s son.”
Preemptive pardons could become the norm as presidents pardon whole categories of allies and even themselves to foreclose federal prosecutions. It can quickly become the norm in what I recently wrote about as our “age of rage.”
It will give presidents cover to wipe away any threat of prosecution for friends, donors, and associates. This can include self-pardons issued as implied condemnations of their political opponents. It could easily become the final act of every president to pardon himself and all of the members of his Administration. We would then have an effective immunity rule for outgoing parties in American politics.
Ironically, there is even less need for such preemptive pardons after the Supreme Court recognized that presidents are immune for many decisions made during their presidencies. Likewise, members have robust constitutional protections for their work under Article I, as do journalists and pundits under the Constitution’s First Amendment.
We have gone over two centuries without such blanket immunity. In my book The Indispensable Right, I discuss our periods of violent political strife and widespread arrests. Thomas Jefferson referred to John Adams’s Federalist government as “the reign of the witches.” Yet, even presidents in those poisonous times did not do what Joe Biden is now contemplating.
Moreover, presidential pardons have a checkered history, including presidents pardoning family members or political donors. Bill Clinton did both. Not surprisingly, Clinton last week attempted to add his own wife’s name to the sought-after Biden pardon list. He added, however, “I don’t think I should be giving public advice on the pardon power…It’s a very personal thing.”
That is precisely the point. The power was not created to be used for “very personal things,” like pardoning your half-brother and a fugitive Democratic donor on your last day in office.
Yet, despite that history, no president has seen fit to go as far as where Biden appears to be heading.
Biden kritiserede i sin tid Trump for hans benådninger, men da Biden benåede sin familie, blev det for meget for selv CNNs James Tapper, der blot skrev “And 4 years+ later…” Jonathan Turley skriver
After Republicans in the House detailed millions in payments, the media shifted to claiming that there was no real scandal unless it was shown that Joe Biden actually received money directly. It was a ridiculous claim since courts have long treated money going to family members as the same as going directly to a principal as criminal conduct.
The media continued to protect Biden, as evidence showed that Biden had repeatedly lied about not meeting with Hunter’s clients or not having knowledge of his foreign dealings.
As the media narrative continued to collapse, it latched on the promise of Biden that he would never pardon his son – proof that the President was willing to let the criminal justice system run its course.
Biden then was shown to be lying about the pardon promise. After he was forced out of the election, Biden signed a pardon for any crimes over a decade committed by his son.
The media gave muttered “harrumphs” and moved on. Many said that it was understandable for a father of a son who struggled with drugs.
Now, in the final minutes of his presidency, Biden pardoned his other allegedly implicated family members, including James Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John Owens, and Francis Biden.
“One of the reasons the president gave [for the pardons] is he doesn’t want his relatives and friends and people who are good people in his view to be subject to the expenses of massive investigation. Duh, you didn’t stop that. Congress can still investigate all these people,” Dershowitz said.
“In fact, they’ve lost their Fifth Amendment privilege. So, now, if Congress subpoenas them, they have to testify, they can’t claim the Fifth Amendment. So, your brother and all the others can be called in front of the Republican-controlled Senate committee or House committee.”
“In 1954, members of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party shot 5 Congressmen during an immigration debate on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.”
““Kamala,” by Kadir Nelson, would have been the cover of the November 18, 2024, issue of The New Yorker, had Kamala Harris had won the election.” skrev The New Yorker på Facebook og linkede til artiklen (bag betalingsvæg) “Madame President: The Cover That Never Was”
