Den amerikanske konservative kommentator Charlie Kirk er blevet myrdet, som han holdt et foredrag ved universitetet i Utah Valley. Kirk blev ramt i halsen af et skud og faldt livløs til jorden. Han blev erklæret død kort efter at han var blevet hastet til hospitalet. Venstrefløjen og deres medier var ikke sentimentale over den nyhed

“I always go back to hateful thoughts, lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions.” sagde Matthew Dowd på MSNBC “You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place.” En af deres kommentatorer beklagede at “after the attack on one of the Dodge employees was allegedly attacked in Washington DC, that was what Donald Trump used as a justification to send in federal troops”. Vold er altså en illegitim grund til at skærpe ordenshåndhævelsen. En anden igen spekulerede i at gerningsmanden måske var “a supporter of Charlie shooting their gun off in celebration”…

På ABC sagde Aron Katersky

[Kirks] presence there at the university had divided the campus, according to an article in the school paper, where there were people on both sides debating whether he should even be allowed to bring his message, often loyal to the agenda of President Trump, to campus

Guvernør JB Pritzker beklagede den politiske vold, som han bebrejdede “the president’s rhetoric”. Tidligere havde han selv, til stort bifald, sagt

Never before in my life have I called for mass protests. For mobilisation. For disruption. But I am now! These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace.

“We’re in a war right now to save this country” sagde hans partifælle Senator Chris Murphy dagen før mordet på Kirk “And so you have to be willing to do whatever is necessary in order to save the country.” Og Californiens guvernør Newsom havde erklæret “We are fighting fire with fire and we are gonna punch these sons of bitches in the mouth!”

Forfatteren Stephen King sagde “it was another  example of American gun violence.” For få dage siden skete der ellers et eksempel på et andet amerikansk problem, da en ukrainsk flygtning brutalt blev stukket i halsen, som hun sad i et metrotog, af en sort mand. “I got that white girl!” gentog han, uden at nogen ilede kvinden til hjælp, der hurtigt blødte ihjel. Folk var hurtigt ude og spekulere i, om det var almen resignation eller en konsekvens af at den tidligere marineinfanterist Daniel Perry var blevet retsforfulgt for at have pacificeret en psykotisk sort man i et metrotog i New York. Den psykotiske mand døde nogle minutter senere  i politiets varetægt, men Perry blev alligevel fængslet og sigtet for en race-forbrydelse.

CNNs Van Jones gjorde sig selv til et offer, i historien om den unge ukrainske kvinde, var ironisk nok et af Charlie Kirks sidste tweets. Jones sagde

Even the most liberal well intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain, that can be activated at an instant. So what you’re seeing now is a curtain falling away. And those of us who have been burdened by this every minute, every second of our entire lives are fragile right now.

I samme ånd kunne CNNs politiske panel hos Abby Phillips ikke se, at det var et problem, at morderen ikke stadig sad i fængsel for sine tidligere forbrydelser. “You don’t lock people up for schizophrenia” sagde Keith Boykin, der selv er mand og sort og Kat Abughazaleh tilføjede “I use public transit constantly… people shouldn’t be locked away for mental illness…”. Angående det. så havde Jesse Watters fundet denne proces mere symptomatisk for USAs åndelige tilstand

“I found out this guy at work is a Conservative, what’s surprising is the sudden level of hatred I have for this Man I used to respect” fortalte en ung kvinde på X, med de sædvanlige ‘crazy eyes’. Ikke ud af det blå. “Democratic leaders continued to ramp up their “rage rhetoric” following the inauguration” skrev Jonathan Turley i februar

We have already seen violent protests and planned assassinations directed against Trump Administration figures. Despite the growing tensions, Democrats are ratcheting up claims of a “coup” and calling for Democrats to “fight in the streets.”  After failing to win the election with claims that Democracy would die if Trump is elected, Democrats are doubling down on rage politics to try to win over the public. The difference is that they are now focusing on Elon Musk rather than Donald Trump.

Many of those fueling the anger are familiar names.  Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D, Mass.) declared “Elon Musk is seizing the power that belongs to the American people.” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D, Md.) claimed on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” that Musk and Trump were conducting a “rapidly expanding and accelerating coup.”

Sen. Ron Wyden (D., Ore.) appeared to be working off the same talking point and declared that a “coup” was being carried out.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) warned that Musk was “taking away everything we have.”

Og kom til den ikke overraskende konklusion, at “it can inspire unhinged citizens who actually believe that this is a war against a coup.” For blot et par dage siden, skrev Turley bekymret om den ‘jacobinske’ symbolik med guillotiner, som bliver paraderet ganske oftere til venstrefløjens demonstrationer og mindede om, at det hurtigt kunne blive et tveægget sværd

The appearance of guillotines is becoming commonplace in protests by the left. From protests against Trump to those against Israel, the symbol of the Terror is being rolled out as a warning to those with opposing views: “We got the guillotine, you better run.”

It is the ultimate expression of an age of rage. There is no question that it is protected speech. However, it is part of what I have called “rage rhetoric,” and it is meant to inflame others. It suggests that the only solution to these issues is what the French called “the razor of the Republic.”

In the French Revolution, the irony is that those who turned the guillotine into the symbol of revolution were themselves beheaded on the same platforms. Robespierre and others would ultimately be dispatched in the same atmosphere of rage and revelry.

“In the end, today’s pseudo-revolutionaries are likely to find themselves tomorrow’s reactionaries” advarede han og tilføjede “Leading mobs is rarely a safe place to be as more radical elements take hold of a movement”. Og venstrefløjen har normaliseret det radikale. Kirks hele virke var at møde sine politiske modstandere i åben debat. Og det myrdede de ham for.
